Oh I like HIARCS Chess and Chess King. They're relatively easy to use and entertaining. I've owned Fritz but it's a Chessbase product and powerful, but complex. Lucas Chess is free but documentation is maybe not stellar. Have fun choosing just one; I obviously couldn't...

Arena 3.5.1 is very good, and free, but make sure you do a search for what adjustment you need to make to get the help file to work.
with Arena you can play against the computer and also load and analyze other games.
I think you can play against Chess.com bots. They are excellent for practicing.
Hello: I am just starting to study chess again. Back in the 90s (when I was a teenager) I profited from ChessMaster software for PC. I enjoyed being able to play the computer plus I liked the database of historical games and lessons. The Analysis Feature also helped me. Can anyone recommend similar software that I can download to my laptop to start studying again? DKK
