Good Tactics Book for Beginners

Greetings.

I recently picked up chess after a long time of absence and I can clearly see that I am not in any shape a good chess player. I can manage my openings somewhat good, but tactics kill me. I know that I have many queens hanging, or losing my rook to a fork.

I am looking for a good tactics book to study on, for my rating (I am 800s) so as to increase it. Any kind of recommendation would be more that good.

Thank you for reading this <3

the tactics books i got started on were "bobby fischer teaches chess" - this book is basically a back rank checkmate book- it was good for me when i first started and the way the book is set up means you dont need a board to ise it properly

the second tactics book i used was bain's "tactics for students" - this was a huge help for many reasons; first, it is divided by tactical motif, another reason is by doing the problems in another notebook (so as not to mess up the pages in the book) i got used to using chess notation- which was a huge help as my coach encouraged me to play in a tournament after my first lesson and we were required to write down the moves

the third book- which i havent finished yet- is heisman's "back to basics- tactics"- i havent gotten far in it but i did get through the chapter on "counting" and that alone started paying dividends

i also got the "polgar book" with the 5000 checkmates but i havent gone into it yet

also, my "online" coach encouraged me to try emmanuel neiman's "chess antenna" book

this book teaches how to be alerted to the possibility of tactics in one's games

things like king safety, undefended pieces, alignment, and others are "signals" that, when "tripped," are when one needs to begin using the clock to look for and calculate "tactical opportunities"

this book was just what i needed at the time and i am roughly 1/2 way through

IM squarology has a video series on neiman's "signals" you can search on youtube so you dont need the book immediately- he is a good youtuber

also, if you havent looked at- check out john bartholomews videos "climbing the ratings ladder" and "chess fundamentals"; though not specifically geared to tactics these videos were a huge eye opener in "looking" at playing chess properly as a sub 1000

Winning chess: perfecting your attacking play by chernev helped me with tactics alot

For tactics themselves for low- to mid-rated players, I don't think you can beat Dan Heisman's Back to Basics: Tactics, recommended by him for 800-1900 rated players.

This book isn't just a list of tactics and patterns to recognize, it also emphasizes safety (not dropping pieces), when and how to look for tactics, and defensive problems where you find a way to avoid losing material or getting checkmated.

Thank you all kind sirs. I went ahead and ordered Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess as my first chess book. When I am done with it, I will look at the options you posted.

"Chess Tactics for Kids" by Murray Chandler or "The Chess Tactics Workbook" by Al Woolum are both very good
