Good tools for databases?

Is there any good PGN viewer that allows me to 'attach' a database to it, where I can make moves that follow along with the database's opening explorer but also make independent moves/variations and use an Engine to analyze the position as well?
I've downloaded several programs for this (Scid, Scid vs PC, LucasChess, Penguin), but I'm struggling to find one that has the features that I mentioned.
