d4 is the simple answer. How in depth though? You are probably better than me at this anyways, as I am a 1100.
good way to beat the modern

yea, I play d4, but then they play g6 (1.d4 g6). any good response to that?

I like this triple-pawn attack-esque variation
it could work if they played Nc6, but they'd prob transpose into the KID

i mean if you are going to play d4 you should learn KID and grunfield
Yes but going from a Modern to a KID/Gruenfeld is usually a bad thing
the Modern definitely isn’t bad, but it is a much less established opening than the other two, and naturally shouldn’t cause much problems (at least not as many as the KID or the Gruenfeld)

going into a classic modern with 2.e4 is what the computer recommends but he is a d4 player so idk if he wants to go into the e4 variation.
Yeah true
it might be an extra thing to learn
Pirc isn’t that scary though, and the e4 lines basically always go to Pirc so should be fine (at least in my opinion)

I play Bg4 Qd2 h6, then Bh3 and then probably exchange Bishops on the next move if White doesn't exchange Bishops first. I have had a lot of success playing this system that I devised myself.
are there any good ways to play against the modern (1...g6)? it's really annoying whenever I prepare an opening and just see g6 being played
