Grinding in chess

Recently,I have played a tournament with very strong players.I found that it was very difficult to win against even lower rated players.I mostly ended up with draws. When I checked with the engine it was a seemingly perfect game but not that they are unbeatable they have also lost to other players

So,how do you grind a win against good solid players

You have to patiently wait for them to make a mistake, and when they do, meticulously exploit it.

But that does not always help.Still thanks for your advice

Here is a masterclass in grinding. It is a draw all the time, until black finally makes a mistake.

That's correct. I don't know who downvoted it but it's the only possible way. However, we all have our strengths and weaknesses and it's good to try to use our strengths to trap strong players into making mistakes. It can be by introducing complex tactics, introducing complexities which are less tactical or by finding a way to simplify very fast and unexpectedly into a beneficial ending. For instance, I like to use my queen tactically and tend to keep the queens on if I can. That means that the opponent will get the feeling that I want to keep the queens on. But I really like queenless middle games and if, at any time, I can get the queens off, I'm looking for ways my minor pieces can be more effective than my opponent's in a queenless game.

A great question and it sums up in a nutshell for me the complexities of chess and climbing the ratings ladder . As others have commented no easy options the higher you go so I try variety of open tournaments to mix things up - just don't pick up bad habits.

it doesn't get easier as you get higher rated. it actually gets harder for multiple reasons.

patience while still keeping your position solid is the key.

it's knowing what to do, when there is nothing to do. forcing things is not always the best option.
