Halloween or fried liver?
Fried liver for lower rating ranges and halloween for more higher rating range players...
The opposite is true. The Fried Liver is objectively better for white, while the Halloween gambit is dubious with best play.
The Halloween is a loss against best play.
The Fried Liver is objectively very sound, with two huge drawbacks: 1)You can't enforce it. 2) It requires a lot of memorization.
I love forum posts like this ‘cos they remind me how exciting it is for new players to see opening traps and tricks… like there’s no other reason to compare these two openings unless they’re very fresh in your mind and probably the only theory they know 😅
something beautifully pure about itÂ
Fried liver attack is +1,4, Halloween gambit is -1,2. Stockfish do not lie. Btw, 99% of players discussing here probably don’t know what the Fried liver attack actually is.

There’s two IMs in this forum lol I think more than 1% of people discussing it know what the fried liver attack is
This, and ONLY THIS is the ftied liver attack.
Exactly! Unfortunately a lot of streamers refer to 4. Ng5 by white in the Two Knights as the Fried Liver, but as you point out the line doesn't become the Fried Liver until the point you show. Black has a few ways to avoid the Fried Liver Attack by not recapturing the d pawn, such as 5. Na5 or 5. b5.

The Fried Liver is evaluated by a proper engine as +0.7 or so. It is currently scrutinized at ICCF in a thematic tournament. It's not complete yet, and it seems that with proper play it is a draw. However, the right evaluation is that it is bad for Black, as he has to find a lot of "only" moves to survive in a chaotic position.

The Halloween on the other hand is losing (around -2.50) and the best way to play as Black is well known:
There is a free course at Chessable which deals with this refutation.
However, objective evaluations and "flawless play" do not mean much at practical chess.
