You know those boards where pieces are as tall as the humans. Imagine if you could play blitz chess on that. It would actually make chess athletic.

Although there wouldn't be any touch move. (I guess you could but it would make it really hard not to bump into another piece.)

You could stand wherever you want, and if you're blocking your opponent's view they'd have to move to a spot where they could see.

If you made the pieces really heavy, like 30-60 kilos each, it would start getting physical in a cool way. And it would require lots training as the bigger pieces like rocks and queen would be too heavy for you to move at the end of the game.
