Has Chess.com elevated your chess?

I've only started visited this site for 3-4 weeks, but doing Erik's puzzles seems to be slightly improving my game over at the Yahoo! site. I still make lots of blunders, but I am getting better at recognizing checkmate opportunities.

One of these days, I'll decide to get my feet wet and actually play someone here.

My chess has gotten better already.  I have always enjoyed chess, but never had time to play a game.  Now I can play alot, against a wide variety of styels and skill levels.

THANKS CHESS.COM!!

........how bout it ERIC???

umm... if you like an environment where it is 25 men to every 1 woman, then sure, maybe it would work?!?!?! :P

I believe I've made some solid progress as a chess player thanks to chess.com.  I still haven't gone to a real tournament or joined the USCF, but that's not far off for me now.

I am closer to the grade i should have on the internet the gradeing systen in england is on a year by  year bases and and by that is less accurute in asessing the current ability of a chess palyer.

yes, yes and yes!! i have proof i hav improved as i have recently beat a good graded person in reality!!

though it is not exactly chess.com that has helped me. it is that chess.com allows me to play chess matched at my own house... to be honest i dont think the chess mentor or tactics trainer are much use

I think I've improved but the analysis board may have effected my OTB play

I feel the main thing that will make my chess improve is the chess mentor facility. Other than that the main thing for me to do is get off my rear end and put my completed games through some analysis to see where I went wrong and what chances I missed. Definately much more fun playing here and spending far too much time playing chess now lol

Yes, I think that my skills are improving. When I started on Chess.com about three months ago I was whipped by several players and now I have come back to beat them. It took me three months to get above 1300 and I am closing in on my 200th game. I'm at 50% wins now and that is a drastic improvement from when I first began here. I love the site so much I signed up as a gold member. My next goal is to reach 1400 and not on games that I have won on time !

My Chess has definitely improved since joining this site, probably over 300+ points.  I have definitely enjoyed this site betterthan any other chess playing experience I have ever had.

I guess it's possible that some of the women might like it. It's like what they say about MIT: the odds are good, but the goods are odd.

It has.  Not only through gameplay online here, but by pushing me to read more books and play more chess altogether. So again a strong yes.
Nilesh021
sure it's been very nice playing here.

Going from 1300-1600 involves a bit more learning to be honest. Someone rated 400-700 are equally bad (good?). Ok maybe im right/wrong, i made my point.

I diagree. Recognizing an opponent's blunder takes experience, as does avoiding blunders in the first place. Judging from analysis of my older games, I've gotten much better at both. That counts as learning in my book.

Exactly, learning not to blunder is a skill too; you can only properly start thinking tactically when you're comfortable with the basics...

i love it

No.  I've always been this good!  :-)  Just kidding.  Of course it's helped.  Tremendously.  It's lowered my production in every other facet of my life, but what the hell, it's fun, challenging, gets the brain working.  Besides, I live alone so who the hell am I gonna play chess with live.

Now if they could come up with live "Chess Dating" then I'd be all for that!  :-)

I previously said that chess.com did not elevate my chess but now i have been here a bit longer and analysed other peoples games it has helped me alot.

Having spoken to a few people on the site and read users comments, it seems that many people have been encouraged to play more chess due to this site. Obviously, the more time spent on the game, the more you improve. Actually, if anyone has started to spend more time on chess and ended up getting worse, I'd like to hear about it.
