Help I am stuck in my 500s

No matter how hard I try and how many lessons I do I keep getting trapped in my 500s.

My rating was rapidly growing for a few months but now it is almost a year since I entered my 500s.

Can someone give advice to how I can get to 600s

Take a break, about 2 days to 1 week, revisit the basics, I still try to find time to revisit basic endgames.

Pick 2 openings for each colour, I recommend kings pawn and kings Indian defence for white, and Sicilian and Caro kann are good choices

At your level, just look at your moves and make sure that you are not making mistakes(checkmates, loss of material, doubled pawns etc….). Also try to go for tactics if you see them no matter how obvious it might be because your opponent might not see it. Look at your opponent’s moves and try to guess what they are trying to do and prevent it or just keep playing normally if they don’t have a plan. Also look at the lessons and do puzzles. That’s pretty much it.

Do not forget that your opponent is also trying to win.

Look at their moves at least as long as you look at theirs.

Checks- can you  check them, can they check you ?

Captures- can you capture something-do you get it for free, or will it be an exchange of pieces. Does that exchange help you more than them? Can they capture something for free, or would it be a favourable exchange, for them or you?

Try not to move the same piece, twice, in the first 10 moves.- But don't let something get taken while doing so.

Get your knights out to the 3rd row, and castle when you can.

Do puzzles (take your time and try to find forcing moves), try to make good habits, like counting the number of attackers and defenders; choose an opening to practice the variations of (e.g., https://lichess.org/study/Yk8wUA8f and https://lichess.org/study/S91bDLVW) then use it as much as possible; Go move by move when you review your games and remember that the mistakes you find are like gold because noticing them and understanding what the best move was is the biggest part of improving.

@OP, This, in addition to basic tactics. Read the following link, along with the link to "A Counting Primer". If you don't learn this most basic tactical concept, you will never get anywhere.

Puzzles are your best friend man. You will start to understand the patterns. And actually take your time to get them right. My puzzle rating is twice my rapid rating. I take my time and actually try to get every one right and it helps you grow and see things you never used to. And don't play too many games. 3-4 a day at most, honestly I only ever play when I feel on point, and I can see how on point I am by how I'm doing on puzzles. If I am seeing everything and knocking out puzzles I'll play a few games. If I'm failing miserably then I'll hold off.

As @NervesofButter already pointed out, you have too much time on the clock in the games you lose. I randomly picked another game to check and noticed the same thing.

The game I checked was https://www.chess.com/game/live/31708764631?username=laserpro1234

Some of your attacking moves clearly show you can spot tactical patterns and make good moves. Without going into detail on every move, there are two moves that stood out to me.

What did you expect to accomplish with this move? This may sound rhetorical (or even condescending) but I mean it literally. Even though you still have development to do (a Bishop that’s still locked in, you have not castled and your Queen and both Rooks are still passive), you chose to play an attacking move with your Knight. It’s not an incredibly bad move, but the most puzzling to me, because I can’t see where you expect this Knight to go next. What you need to do to improve depends on your motivation for this move. Maybe you miscalculated, then you should work on that. Maybe you were not aware of the importance of opening principles, you should probably look into that. Or, maybe you skipped the whole thinking process, in that case you should start with considering all moves before you play one.

Your opponent is lining up a mate threat. Did you see that? If not you should try to analyze your opponent’s options too. Or did you see that, decided you could check him first and then forgot the next move? I’m stating the obvious here, but if you want to improve you really need to spot if your opponent can mate you. The question is, are you unable to see the mate threat or did you not bother to check for mate threats? Your answer will show you what you need to do to improve.
