It was a computer, it went through all the possible winning checkmates with a 100% chance of winning and chose a random one. Killing the knight would have worked
I was reading about this game:

And I do not understan why on move 157., the black does not capture the new knight.
I there a rule I am not aware of? Thank you for the help.
