I was having a similar issue with messages. What you want to do is is click on the link at the bottom right which says something like click here to change your group alert settings and uncheck the boxes you dont want for a given group.

If that dose not address the issue unfortunatly thats all i know currently.

Well you could try going to live chess and in the bottom right hand box there is a chat rab that contains within it the help and support chatroom which is frequented by staff at chess.com they will be able to help if you can get in the chat when one of the staff is there.

Yes, this is a magic chess site. After a while, you can get people to just appear, and disappear.

I emailed the staff about this and told it was unacceptable to have an "archive" only button.  The Admin person said that will likely be how it is from now on, as this was the decision of the CEO........very disappointed in chess.com for going this route.

Personally, I believe it is a way for staff to monitor what is being said in messages between players......why else would they have set it up this way?  I remember being told by one of the Moderators that all messages are routinely read and if any inappropriate language is being exchanged, the players are warned.  I don't know, just a guess on my part.

That whole thing doesn't really make sense, sorry. If they wanted to read it, "archiving" or "deleting" on your end wouldn't make the slightest difference. And no, they will not be reading your messages, do you think they have the time to do such trivial nonsense?

Realistically they probably only do this for messages which are reported by other players or get flagged for having certain key words in them. My guess is they only act if it gets reported by another member but i am not especially motivated to test this.

Well Khallyx I've been here 6 years and know for a fact this is done.  I've heard it straight from a staff member did this as part of their "job", so to speak.  I've also known players that have received a warning for "improper" behavior after staff has read outgoing messages.....so while your theory "makes sense", it's not on mark with what has happened in the past.

I'd like to direct you to Gatife's post.

I agree D  It is a disturbing idea.  Pvt meesages between adults without complaint shoud be private.
