Hiccups

Before you do this petition thing, sit down and figure out how many signatures you can get for it. Do some canvassing and talk to people. If you try this petition to get someone else banned only to have it fail with little or no support, you'll probably not be the most popular guy in the club.

That's a great point. Nobody likes hiccup guy, but I'm not sure if anyone else is willing to 86 the jerk.
He needs a glass of water with a straw. Fingers go in ears so he can't hear. Drink the entire glass through the straw while holding your breath, taking small sips. I have never seen this not work.
Or you could get ear plugs, or noise cancelling headphones.
I’ve run in to a bit of a situation with another player at my local club. We’ve played five or six times, and every time I get a good position or go in to a long think, this guy gets a loud uncontrollable case of the hiccups. He’s done this while playing others too, everyone at the club is "a little suspicious" to put it nicely. When I complained to the tournament director he simply shrugged and said, “Hiccups, it is what it is, I can’t do anything about it.”
Many of us are pretty sure he’s faking hiccups to distract his opponents and are pretty damn irritated over it. They’re not even very realistic, it sounds more like a seals mating call sped up to 4x speed than a natural hiccup. He will even apologize and get up to drink some water or even hold his breath in an attempt to get rid of these hiccups. I think these attempts to stop the hiccups are just more theater designed to distract me from chess.
Next week at chess club, I’m going to march right up to him as soon as he walks in and tell him exactly what I think about his hiccups in front of everyone so everyone can hear and if he doesn’t cut it the heck out I’m going to start a petition to get him banned from the club. Have any of you had success banning annoying players from their clubs?
