Hello all, a few months ago my High School established a chess team for the first time ever, naturally we are relatively bad (since October we have two wins). Most players are at or below 1200 level (estimated). I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how I can help my team and teammates grow, both for next season and our chess program in general.
Individually for the most part, for about a month now I've been meeting after school so we can get more playing time We have practices with our coach for roughly two hours a week and I meet with my teammates anywhere from 3-8 hours a week depending on tests and whatnot. Most players will average ~20 games a week on their own
I'd focus on playing and analyzing your games, review tactical motifs, and work on endgame technique. Really most important at that level is tactics, seeing opportunities to win material and minimizing chances for your opponent to win material.
