It’d be unfair just because they’re famous to allow exceptions.

it doesnt involve famous but just records, why would the #1 chess streamer and major impacter in boosting online chess cheat? when you look at it this way, its illogical for him to be disqualified at all and same with vidit as drawn positions should be offered ❤️

Exactly. Influential and famous. Impacting chess… streamer.

Once again, making exceptions like that is just unjust (see what I did there?).

again tell yourself this? would magnus carlsen ever cheat?

But we could say that for any player.

Would established GM 2630 Tigran Petrosian cheat?

Making exceptions for GMs and titled players is unfair.  WC and top streamer too. It is like in society if a celebrity speeds on the street "do you think this celebrity will kill someone?"

tigran was a cheap bozo who got caught, think about it if magnus and hikaru have played here for more than a decade and never got into fair play violations, what makes you think they are cheaters? hikaru is literally the icon for the site, what would he gain by disgracing chess as he is the best american player and the best streamer in our era for the time being

Taylor Swift is an American icon. What if she does drugs or something? Dismiss her? “She’s famous, she would never.”

your not looking at the logic here, just cause someone is famous doesnt mean they cant be punished. there is just lots of evidence which make it extremely hard and not convincing that hikaru would ever cheat. you are comparing drugs with being a cheater and that makes no sense, suggesting she only autotunes and doesnt sing like she sounds would be better.

One reason I hate pop is that no one uses their real voice. Autotune isn’t cheating. Just dumb. We’re discussing prohibitions here.

There’s a lot of things that say she wouldn’t do something illegal, but there’s always a chance. Sure, Carlsen and Nakamura have lots of influence, but that doesn’t necessarily prevent them from doing anything illegal. In fact, influence may even increase the chance.

Sorry about that. I just didn’t know what to say.

I personally think that those rules are simply unneeded. At least, at the calibre they are in.

I think they are reasonable considering the extent to which people might go in order to cheat

If course it is very unlikely that these influential people would cheat. But it's not impossible. And rules are rules . Can't have exceptions for anyone

Here's the moment it happened (for those who haven't seen it):

Twitch Clip - GMHikaru - Phone Interruption

To me, it's a non-issue. His phone rang. He was annoyed by the interruption. He tapped his phone to mute it.

Not sure why the arbiter didn't simply issue him a warning for it. But it is what it is.

Are they? He said himself, rules are rules. He's popular of course, so a lot of his fans will hit back at it, but I think especially with cheating in online chess, that these rules are very reasonable.

The phone was on: potentially someone could be texting him moves, or the amount of times the phone vibrates is the move to make. Of course that isn't going to happen with Hikaru, but high profile examples like that have happened.

True
