Little bug in the "9+" games to play thing

The numbered label next to the main menu's "Play" (at least on desktop) has a little bug:

I had 12 games where it was my move. It displayed as "9+" (not the bug, although I incidentally I would like to say that I would prefer "12"). I made moves in two games, moving from one game to the next via the "next game" arrow rather than by going back to the home page.

After that, I did go back to the home page. I noticed while clicking on the link to get me there that the label had gone down from "9+" to "7", as if I had really had exactly nine games to start with, rather than nine or more. A moment later, I was brought to the home page, and once there it was refreshed from "7" to "9+". Which was correct, since I now had 10, but it should've never gone to 7 (or presumably, to 8 before that) in the first place.

Using x+ means it could be x or more than x

As to not showing the full count, you're on the Beta with the new nav bar. My guess is that decision was based on keeping that a certain size.

Martin, thank you, but I understand that "using x+ means it could be x or more than x". I will try to be more explicit about the bug:

1. Have 12 games to move in. Label shows "9+". Great.

2. Move in one of them. Label shows "8". Not great.

Are you sure you didn't have 9, made moves in two games, and between it saying 7 and going back in that some games has moves made by your opponent in the intervening time?

I don't play Daily anymore so can't easily check, though I know staff have been using the new nav for a few months and many of them do and should likely have seen that if the counts were off.

"Are you sure you didn't have 9..."
Yes, I am sure I didn't have 9. I strongly believe that I had exactly twelve. I am sure I had more than nine. I am furthermore sure that it showed me as having "9+" immediately before I started playing any of them.

"... made moves in two games..."

I guess I am not absolutely sure, but I strongly believe that I made moves in two and only two games.
"... and between it saying 7 and going back in that some games has moves made by your opponent in the intervening time?"
Barring something like "I am literally insane and imagined all this":

I am absolutely sure that the display was "9+" immediately before I started making moves.

I strongly believe that the "real" count immediately before I started making moves was 12.

I strongly believe that I then made moves in exactly two games, no more, no less.

I am absolutely sure that I migrated between the games via the "next game" button, not (for example) by going back to the home page first or by refreshing the page.

I am absolutely sure that after moving in however many games I moved in (which again, I strongly believe to be exactly two), I clicked on the menu button to bring me back to the home page.

I am absolutely sure that while I was about to click it, as I was clicking it, or just after I clicked it, I noticed the display was "7".

I am absolutely sure that very soon after I clicked it, while it was going back to the home page or perhaps just as it had gone back to the home page, it changed from "7" to "9+".

I've seen something similar just recently with regular notifications. I think it is probably a caching related issue

What is the difference between beta and regular

Happened again.
This time I don't know how many games I had going into it, and I don't know how many games I made moves in. But I do know:
(1) Before going to the first game, I had a bunch of games where it was my move. Read "a bunch" as "I don't know how many, but if it was not waaaaaay more than nine, I'll eat my hat."
(2) At that time, it said "9+".
(3) I went into the first game and made a move in it plus at least one other game (but not a lot of them), moving from one to the next via the "Next game" button.
(4) After all that, which I guess took maybe a minute or two total, I saw that it said "7".
(5) I clicked to go back to the home page, and it changed to "9+".

I still had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than nine games, so if the real explanation is "moved from waaaaaaaaaaaay more than nine to exactly seven (despite thinking moves were made in maybe two to four games), and then opponents made moves that moved it back up to waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more than nine, all in a minute or two", I would be... extremely surprised.

Bonus weirdness:

I just went to the main page directly (i.e. by typing the URL into a new browser window, not having previously been on any chess.com page at all). The games list shows I have eight games where it's currently my move. The red label says "9+".

Refreshed the page. Still says "9+".

Clicked to go to the forums so that I could type this very comment. Briefly flashed to "8"; immediately went back to "9+".

Still at "9+" now that I've typed this very comment. I'm guessing I still have exactly eight games where it's my move. If I don't follow this comment up very, very soon, please assume that I have exactly eight games where it's my move.

I'll stop giving specific examples now, but generally speaking, my experiences (including those after my most recent comment here) can be summed up as "Yeah, this is all sorts of screwed up nearly all the time."

I have experienced this too. Honestly, I don’t like that the exact number was replaced with “9+”. It now doesn’t tell me how many dailies I actually have queued up, only that I have at least 9. I think the old version that actually showed you the full number was way better.
