Bruh it's been 32 comments . And not one person has had the intellectual capacity to respond with something that adds worth to the discussion . All I see is "sad" , "he didn't cheat" , "okay" .

Pathetic

bruh you should look at the mirror

Why don't you ? Are you ashamed ?

Jokes apart , I was wondering why anyone didn't point it out . The fact that I was taking a dig at people for not contributing anything worthy to the discussion but at the same time my own comment wasn't meaningful either , was quite ironic

Hikaru not cheated but he kept his mobile near him

I didn't say he cheated, I meant there was no need to disqualify him.

i mean it is hikaru, he never cheats and same with magnus given their history in the elite

It’d be unfair just because they’re famous to allow exceptions.

it doesnt involve famous but just records, why would the #1 chess streamer and major impacter in boosting online chess cheat? when you look at it this way, its illogical for him to be disqualified at all and same with vidit as drawn positions should be offered ❤️

Exactly. Influential and famous. Impacting chess… streamer.

Once again, making exceptions like that is just unjust (see what I did there?).

again tell yourself this? would magnus carlsen ever cheat?

Would established GM 2630 Tigran Petrosian cheat?

Making exceptions for GMs and titled players is unfair.  WC and top streamer too. It is like in society if a celebrity speeds on the street "do you think this celebrity will kill someone?"

tigran was a cheap bozo who got caught, think about it if magnus and hikaru have played here for more than a decade and never got into fair play violations, what makes you think they are cheaters? hikaru is literally the icon for the site, what would he gain by disgracing chess as he is the best american player and the best streamer in our era for the time being

Tigran was a 2600+ GM, good at blitz and rapid, experienced, and pro chess league vet. Would you predict that he would cheat? If you say yes you're lying.

True, but I doubt anyone in the top 100 will throw away everything just for a fun tournament.

However, if they make exceptions, it’ll be unfair.

I agree that they shouldn't make exceptions. Rules are rules.

Though for the record, I don't think anyone is claiming Hikaru cheated. He obviously didn't. He only glanced at his phone for a second or two, to turn off the ringer when it interrupted him.

The disqualification appears to have been for having another electronic device on and near him. It didn't matter how he used it.

Had the phone rang, and it had been the hospital calling to inform him that a loved one of his had passed away, it would've still been grounds for disqualification, according to the rules.

(This, though, is where I feel an arbiter should use their judgement. Disqualification isn't the only option, in the case of infractions. In OTB FIDE play, for example, an arbiter can choose to give a player a time deduction, as a penalty for an infraction ...)

this would have been a very dark direction if hikarus mom actually did die and he got disqualified just from getting that message. i swear if anyone gets disqualified just for finding out someone you knew died, they didnt deserve that and should have gotten better

The problem is that the rules are too stringent at times: there isn't any interpretation for the arbiters, they are just DQ'ed

I agree he didn't cheat. Though, disqualifying him for having a phone near him? Lol. I agree with you; a penalty would have been sufficient.

Thats like saying Christiano Ronaldo would work all his heart and soul into becoming the best soccer player and then throw it away for nothing...

Well he has been accused of some really bad crimes: potentially threw away his career (case is 50-50)
