It's ok to borrowed or being influence by other into their modification, but saying descendent is really messed up.
history of chinese chess

Next time when you want precise translation of Indian chess, use their word then! It's more clear and not confusing, and we can learn new things too

Plus the Elephant in Xiangqi isnt moved the same as the elephant in Indian chess. Both are same animals but different moves.
The Elephant in Indian Chess moves 2 squares diagonally. I do not know if it can blocked or not. Probably can be blocked and its descendant Bishop can be blocked.
The elephant in Indian chess is हाथी hāthī, but it doesn't moves two square diagonally .

Remember , the elephant in Indian chess is हाथी hāthī, but it doesn't moves two square diagonally .
Or you mistaken other kind of chess?

seems you guys have an issue with the word descendant.
To say English is a descendant of the french language is faulty........in that its a by product of multiple languages and as such not just a descendant of french., but hey a baby is also a decedent of multiple family trees.
Some seem to not like the idea of using descendant, just like how most Americans wouldn't like the idea of saying their English is just "broken" U.K English that they claimed as an official language.
True, Vietnam is also not the descendant of French as well just because the French modified their language into Latin alphabets lol

I wonder, is this topic still relevant?
The last topic on Chinese chess was also flooded by your (long_quash) nonsense. I can see you love yourself, and think that you are very smart and know Chinese better than JessieWong (although you can;t read it, but whatever) but aren't you tired of being a deaf motormouth?
If you would just be quiet for a while, and read what others have to say, this topic might benefit greatly. Otherwise, I am afraid this going to be another 100 pages inked with your spurious theories, and that'd be a waste.

By the way if you mean Chaturanga , the Gaja pieces in Chaturanga doesn't move same like elephant in Xiangqi as well.

writing a forum doesnt really grant you a right to filter whats written inside, but ok

By the way if you mean Chaturanga , the Gaja pieces in Chaturanga doesn't move same like elephant in Xiangqi as well.
There were probably many rules. One of the rule is 2 squares diagonally.
The Gaja pieces in Chaturanga doesn't move same like elephant in Xiangqi as well, elephant pieces in Xiangqi can't jump over pieces like in Chaturanga , plus you cant cross the river to the other side which happens for Gaja in Chaturanga
Which means French heavily influenced on English vocabulary, same as how french people brought in Latin alphabets into Vietnam language, then modified it.
Even though Vietnam words is heavily modified into Latin alphabets, you cant say Vietnam is the descendant of French language who just brought in the Latin alphabets to Vietnamese people.
