Yes it is! I always say that I agree with Mikhail Tal's assertion that chess is like a virus that infects you. Sometimes it immediately takes over and rules your life and every waking moment. Other times, you are introduced to the game, and this virus stays dormant only to be awoken later at some time. This is from the beginning parts of "The Life and Games of Mikhail Tal," one of the best chess books ever written. If you haven't read it, and would love some very poignant, entertaining prose on chess along with games by one of the most creative and exciting players of all time, check it out! :-)
Hooked on Chess!

I suppose it is just another sign of getting old! It would be great to have some grand children to teach some chess. It will have to wait coz my daughter are only on their way to 3 and 7.
The soon-to-be 3yo loves to play chess but only according to her own rules:
Daddy should lie flat on the floor not to move a finger
All the pieces should dance with a colleague from the other camp (always starting with the kings!)
and then all the pieces should be placed on the first four rows (Or the last four. That is optional! Placement on four files are strictly forbidden unless the board was set up wrong to start with)

yeah i know i'm addicted. for example, i'm constantly thinking of different lines to play in my correspondence games while lying in bed, chilling with friends, at work, sometimes even in my dreams. i've woken up and discovered nice moves before.
1 : to devote or surrender (oneself) to something habitually or obsessively
yeah, that sounds about right.
OK, I joined Chess.com on April 4th, and got almost immediately hooked!! I'm having a blast, but falling behind on all sorts of things, & staying up til all hours of the night, because the computer keeps beckoning me to get back to the chess board! "Just one more move....." & next thing I know several hours have gone by! Good thing I am retired, so theoretically I have more free time.
I haven't played chess in 40 years, so I had no idea this new "hobby/obsession" was waiting in the wings! I am sure there are LOTS of others out there with the same "problem", a good problem to have
