How are we ever going to beat Magnus Carlsen

Without the expert analysis of guys like Ouachita

Doomclaw

We have Nakamura on our side just listen to him, he knows how to smash that pretender Magnus Carlsen.

Only Chess Com members who own Rybka should be allowed to vote. Each member should be required to submit his or her Rybka registration number with each move.

Oh hell, let's just change the name to centaur.com.

The problem with Vote Chess games against titled players is so many members sign up, check the position when alerted, and make whatever move strikes their fancy with little analysis and no attention to the group discussion.  At one point we labelled them "drive-by voters" and they have a strong effect, enough to derail any serious attempt at a consultation game.

For most moves, the outcome will be decided before the assisting GMs have even posted their suggestions.

I feel the same way about this too.

We have Judit Polgar, we have Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and we have Hikaru Nakamura.

And we will always see their comments first before anyone technically is able to start casting his vote. They will always have some extra time after Magnus has made his move and before voting starts, specifically dedicated for them to be able to write their comments first.

Will engines be allowed in this upcoming game?

If so, I'm not sure that it's even worth playing.  If not, I don't see how a no-engine rule could be enforced.

Yeah, if engines are allowed, what a waste of a game. I mean, to win on your own is what it's all about!

I'm sure engines aren't allowed, would completely defeat the purpose.  Although Carlsen v. Rybka would be fun to watch!

Also I'm quite glad that the master's comments will be added to the position before anyone else can see it.  Although I have no doubt that we will get plenty of diagrams flooding the board from 1000 rated players showing "better moves" lol.  I hope that there can be some logical discussion and not just everyone assuming they are best and voting whatever they think of first.

If I'm not mistaken, engines were used in "Kasparov versus The World".

Well that's just silly.  Rybka vs. anyone is really not close to a fair match.

Conflagration_Planet

I'll probably end up having to take over, and win it for all you people.

This adresses the engine question

Can I use computers or outside help in my Vote Chess game?
Solution The default stance is that computers and outside help are NOT allowed! However, if a game is going to allow computer or outside help it will be clearly noted in the game description.

Please join the group "Team Discussion group Magnus Carlsen" which I have created for this very purpose. If we all follow the consensus reached in that group then we have a chance. Please do not vote until discussion has taken place

ChessMarkstheSpot

I have a feeling we can beat him. We're going to have three GMs, plus I am sure the members joining will know a little something about chess lol. As long as every move is discussed in depth and no one votes on the fly, I think we can do it, and I am really never positive about anything LOL

I recall an article WGM Pogonina wrote a while back (after her vote chess match against chess.com) where she said it was hard to win one-person-versus-a-population matches (as in, hard to win for the lone person)...presumably because it's hard to avoid engine abuse. So yeah.

But only in some limited capacity (the circumstances of which I'm not sure of).

So it's going to be Carlsen vs. everyone-in-the-world-who-owns-fritz? Nah. Though, it would be funny if Deep Junior were voting.
