I know 227 is a bad rating in rapid. But how bad is it? Is it terrible? Super terrible? Am I amongst the worst?

Are my dreams of becoming a grandmaster pointless?

There exists chimpanzees that have achieved a rating higher than 227.

You will never make GM.

You are not honest to yourself. You already answered your own question.

Your chances of becoming a GM are vanishingly small, but that's true of almost all of us. Don't worry about your rating. That's just a number so you can find a fair match.

Don't take the "brutally honest" answers to heart. You gave them an open goal and they can't resist.

Average rating for Rapid is 800. If you need a target you could aim for that in the medium term, but it's much more important to have fun!

Lol, class clown.

I have heard many people say that they were 200-300 when they started playing chess, so I guess your rating is normal for a beginner. Yes, this is an honest answer. Honest answer doesn't have to be insulting, as some other people have understood your question.

I’m just curious, name the chimpanzee that achieved a rating higher than 227. I’m not being snarky, I’d really like to know.

It would be an interesting try if you use a dice. Roll out the piece you move next and then randomly choose a square. Maybe your rating will improve, but maybe not.

On the other hand I am not sure, if a dice is something like an engine, because it creates moves....

mrfreezyiceboy

Absolutely horrible, but you can improve if you study and practice

A reminder to users; please refrain from using any derogatory slurs on chess.com It's not appropriate. I have removed them all from this topic. Anyone who is caught using them anywhere on chess.com will receive an immediate account mute.

As long as we're giving each other reminders... just a reminder, some of us are old enough to remember a time when that word wasn't a slur... and without interacting in childish spaces (like chess.com forums) these people might not know the new social rules.

It goes in cycles. Whatever is politically correct slowly becomes the slur so then a new PC word is chosen. The r-word (lol) used to be the clinical PC word.

I don't know. Did you ever get an answer to your question of who is more famous, Carlsen or Michael Jackson?

In other words, everyone who replied to you without knowing you're a troll is a r-word (lol).

You're a very angry person, and not very smart.

I think that sums it up.

Thanks for the honest answer guys I appreciate it.

I have decided to give up my goal of becoming a grandmaster or being any sort of expert/professional in chess.

I will continue to play casually

You shouldn't give up on your dreams

Just learn more every day and you'll get there. It takes like hundreds of hours of dedication but if you're willing to do that then go for it.

I've started at 150 blitz and I've peaked 1681 sometime last month so anything is possible

It doesn't really matter how good you are at chess when you start. You can get better and you can have a lot higher rating then you have now. GM is unrealistic if you are 10 years old or older, but you can still become a good chess player!

dude0812

Just because you answer honestly doesn't mean you have to be cruel. I have seen a lot of cruel and inconsidered responses here.

I feel if i let go of any expectations, and forget about ratings completely, I would be able to enjoy chess more. If I am too focused on achieving a certain rating, i would end up disappointed and frustrated. There was even a time i dropped 160 points and didn't want to play anymore that day in fear of losing more points.

This is the very reason you wont become a GM. If you’ll let anonymous internet posers change your mind and trash your dreams, then GM was never going to be your future. Please don’t misunderstand me, it isn’t a criticism of you, but you would likely need to possess a greater zeal for learning the game. BTW-there’s nothing wrong with playing and enjoying chess as a casual hobby. Heck you could become a very good player and i hope you do. Maybe not a GM. But, go prove us all wrong. It’s up to you..

XOXOXOexpert

Maybe you need to learn the basics. Besides, we all start from below when we climb a ladder. What the most important is you enjoy it because we can't lose anything if we play a game.
