"at least not on Earth" ?
How big is Magnus Carlsen's ego?

"at least not on Earth" ?
Yeah, you know, where we live.
You do know that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit, don't you. ?
You said/typed :- " Is having an ego in direct conflict with having noble purpose ? I don't think so. At least not on Earth. "
So where else then Mr. Yeah, you know, where we live. ?
Jupiter ? Heaven ? Rygel 7 ? Hades ? Valhalla ? The Twilight Zone ?

No, it isn't like that at all. Especially the inane bits about the Ferrari. And yeah, it was a pretty typical Reddit intro. He states who he is, and what his credentials are.
I know. That's why I said "hyperbole" and ":-)" Anyway, I'm not going to keep trying to defend what was not meant as any kind of serious attack. It was humorous. Personally I respect his abilities and don't care how much of an ego he has. I'm fine with him whether he has a big ego like a pro-wrestler, or he has the detachment of Buddha. I think Mohammed Ali was awesome and he had a big ego and I'm sure would have zero problem with anyone pointing it out. And Carlsen is very mature in public. I know all of that.
The people who are so offended that I might try to have a little fun with his reddit introduction are taking themselves and the whole thing too seriously. I mean, I could envision a whole Daily Show bit on it, or some late night host joking about it, with the guest themselves, all in good fun, and that's all it was meant as.
Nobody is offended. Flatly put you made some dumb comments and were call on those comments. And I doubt you were honestly trying to have fun. Frankly, I've seen this kind of posting a million times. We all have. Somebody says something dumb, gets call out on saying said dumb thing, then falls back the behind the "geez, I was only joking, you guys are soooo serious" routine.

Sarcastic irony noted. It was just recognizing that some people who struggle with ego or the concept, appropriateness or application of ego may feel that spirituality involves egolessness. I think we are all Bozos on this bus. On Earth, we are human and imperfect. Who knows if or what we might aspire to or achieve beyond this mortal coil and our mother ship, Gaia. Would you prefer that I just insult people with religious values? Would that help make your case about Mohammad Ali's ego "act" or your coming to the rescue of Magnus for him being teased for a notable reddit post?

You "doubt" I was trying to have fun, when that's predominately what I do on this forum wiith my OPs? You think I came here to insult Magnus? Seriously? Yeah, you're not offended at what I posted, just at what I posted. So much so you have to argue and belittle (and far more scathingly than anything I said about Magnus, I might add), about how dumb it was and even go so far as to tell me how I felt and what my intentions were for posting it? You're far too impassioned and hostile not to have been offended. As usual, I was kidding around. I understand why some people didn't like it in retrospect, but I still think they could lighten up rather than me heavying down.
How would I not respect Magnus? I can barlely climb up to 1300 on a great week in blitz.

Preferred to what, exactly ?
" Would that help make your case about about Mohammed Ali's ego "act"
What would help make my case ?
" coming to the rescue of Magnus " ?
What makes you think Magnus requires rescuing ?
" I think we are all Bozos on this bus "
Speak for yourself.

Speak for yourself.
I am speaking for myself. I said "I think" we (you included) are "Bozos on this bus". I did not say you actually are a Bozo. Actually, I didn't say definitely one way or the other. Do you have any proof that you are not a Bozo on this bus? Not that I have any reason to doubt you. I'm sure you are quite a decent fellow of upstanding character and the best of intentions.
"I Think We're All Bozos on This Bus"

" So you think I am Ugly ? "
" Yes, but I did not SAY you were ugly "
You have no reason to doubt that I am not a Bozo, yet you think we are all Bozos on this bus, me included ?
You need proof that I am not a Bozo ?
LMAO !

At this point, there is no need for you to prove you are not a Bozo. I am satisfied.

Gee, I'm so relieved that you're satisfied.
Cool. Now you can go relieve yourself somewhere else.
Mohammed Ali's "ego" was an act.
Maybe all ego is ultimately big act.
Mohammad Ali certainly wouldn't begrudge anyone thinking he had a big ego. I am fully aware of his religious leanings and concientious objection and losing his title for it. Big ego or not, I respect him myriad ways. Is having an ego in direct conflict with having noble purpose? I don't think so. At least not on Earth.
The way I heard it put once - "We cannot avoid the use of power, so let us learn to love powerfully".
