How can disconnecting add to your time ?

The weirdest thing happened just now in a 10 min blitz game. I was playing against someone who disconnected for about 10-15 seconds just about every 2nd move of his. I was winning, but see all of a sudden the clock has run out for me and he (or she) still has just over 4 minutes left.  I made prompt countermoves and did not hesitate, so I lost no time on my side. But lost the game to some nerd with a trick up his sleeve.

You might try to clean cache of your browser. Another thing too is hitting refresh often.

I never hit "refresh". The game starts on screen - I play it.

That has happened to me many times. It looks like my opponents clock is running out, then suddenly it is me who has timed out.

If you have been waiting for a while, refresh and the game will come back showing it is your turn.

Long time fan of your joke thread so I'll try to explain this without getting you more annoyed.  Nekhemevich gave you good advice.  Whenever your opponent seems to be taking a long time for a move it's a good idea to hit refresh.  Here's why.  If you had a momentary disconnect, your opponent's move may not have reached your computer.  So your clock keeps on running showing your opponent running out of time when in fact it's you who are running low on time.  Refreshing early and often keeps this from happening. Let me find an article for you:
