Yeah, and if you looked at my post you would see that I don't give a flier about the OP or his game. It was directed at the issue in general, disputing the ridiculous notions that chess.com's arbitrary rules are immutable and that one must expect such drawn-out play.
How can I get an online game terminated?
Read more carefully next time. That one sentence is pretty clearly damning of the OP and the rest has absolutely nothing to do with him at all.
Construct your posts more clearly next time.
First, how is that damning of the OP? One sentence saying "this guy" could refer to the OP or his opponent.
Second, mentioning the OP or the opponent and then using "but" ties the two thoughts together.
Perhaps you should learn how to communicate better. The onus of understanding lies with the communicator, not with the communicatee.
If your oppenent takes 5 days per move and you take 2 days per move, the game will most likely be over in less than 2 years.
Some people just don't get it. :|
Yeah, like king_nothing1 apparently doesn't get it. Correspondence chess has a purpose. The time control is there for a reason. Taking the 5 days for each move to get to move 18 is not abuse. Now if you have a King and Rook and your opponent has just a King, and he does that, then yes, I'll call foul there! But the first 18 moves of the game...uhm...no! Get a grip! If you can't deal with it, quit playing correspondence chess.
I thought I won't contribute in this post anymore since I thought I made my point and now thanks to some members I didn't want to get indulge into mud slinging fest but it seems idiotic behavior by some people are so tempting that I decided to make one more post.
I will clear few points here since Rsava is getting so emtional.
- Thanks Rsava for doing all the research, you really have huge amount of time and apparently little understanding of what is being said i.e. what this post actually abt. As I mentioned, this post is abt raising a issue of abusing a privilege of correspondense chess by some members. Yes, it is technically fair and well within their right but it doesn't necessarily makes its abuse right. ( you may agree with me or not but this was my point.)
- Now 3 month vs 1.5 month. Yes I admit I didn't see that it is not actually 3 months but do you see how it feels to me that this game going since eternity??? Damn me father for I have sinned. How dare I reported time wrong and cause you just don't get it.
- You even calculated per move time. Genius!!! Now try to see that it may be a possibility that first few moves were made so quickly and since then it is on the last hour of 5th day? Just a little food for ur mind.
Is it preventing you from doing other things?

I have no problem with your suggestion as long as it remains an option only and the standard is how it is played today.
Being able to customize time control settings is what I suggest in my post.
And yes, it's preventing me from doing other things; I can't live my life for, say three months because I think it's more important to stare at my screen and wait for my opponent to stall the game with yet another king move on an empty board. I do "other things"; even so, I find these games tedious.
I'm no ape, please don't imply that I think like one.

Well, that is life. You entered into a contract of 14 days per move. It is binding to you no matter how one sided it may remain. I personally don't like the idea of numbers of move shorten/lenghten via how fast or slow a person plays. Lets say i went on vacation & i know that i have 5 days per move to make a move & choose not to press the vacation button as i have enough time to make my move but i lost due to time out because the game was shorten. Is that FAIR? I don't think so.
Like i said in my earlier post, just resign if it annoys you. Points are NOTHING!!! Or just keep playing. I sincerely believe if your opponent is playing a lot of games, then he or she is actually fighting for time & NOT annoying you.
BTW you can ask the moderator to lock this topic if you done with it. Not 100% sure but i think it can be done.
Back when I had a total of three or four games, I felt a little like the OP. I would wish someone would come online and make a move. I added more games, got into some groups, and wound up getting up to 30 games at a time, which is too much for me. I'm backing it back down to where I go online and have about 6 moves to make, so I have time to think. It's challenging to find the right number of games, but I've got it figured out now. Anyway, add a few more games, and don't focus on one game and how long it's taking. That shouldn't really matter. I've gotten to where I don't even really remember what team match it is, or even which opponent it is, just the position will be familiar.

Your post clearly indicates yu have no clue what Correspondence Chess is about.

Dragonbice - I apologize if that is how you took it. I did not mean it that way, I was pointing out that it doesn't prevent anyone from living their life. Although, to be honest, I am not sure how you could possibly think I was implying you are an ape or that you think like one. I do take responsibility for you not understanding what I was saying.
And I did say "I have no problem with your SUGGESTION".
Sorry Rsava, I've cut it up once for you already, if you still refuse to digest it then that is your own lookout.
It seems like everyone else admits there is some room for improvement with the system, and you are just getting bellicose and pushing them around for saying so.
ivandh -
I don't need you to "cut it up for me". I never said there wasn't room for improvement.
I have an opinion, you don't like it so you need to bully me into thinking like you?
Go away. You're annoying.
I"m in a tournament that started last Oct and we're still in round one because we've been waiting four months for the last game to finish. Instead of being annoyed, I'm quite amused that they've gone this long. I want to give them both a trophy, but they'd think I was being sarcastic. In the meantime, I've gone on with my life.
The best thing about internet anonymity is that you get to ventilate all your hate towards other people without repercussions.
Really? The rest of us are.
Yes, but I like to think of myself as a great ape.
Or a Grape Ape -
As far as CC goes, I try to make a move for each game every morning at breakfast, yet I always instigate 7-14 days/move as if I go out partying for the weekend, a family member gets hospitalised or I hit a stage of depression then I like to be able to return to the game without being reliant on my vacation time, which I may genuinely need at some point. I don't think vacation time should be viable for tournaments, though, it is unfair to the multiple participants. One on One matches, however, are not worth crying over. There are other matches you can sink your teeth into without getting your big oul bloomers in a knot whilst waiting for your slow opponent.
OK, this guy is a jagoff, but:
I've never had anyone take the full three days for consecutive moves except when they were losing badly. Anyone who has played a single game of correspondence chess can expect that moves will take place when they can and not at the very last moment every single time.
Yes, players are allowed to take that much time; but that's not written in stone. We can change it to make the system work a little better... or not.
Yeah, and if you looked at the original post and the game the OP is talking about - you would see that the game was on move 18 after 46 days. No way it was the full 5 days every move that the OP complained about. The OP wants to play speed chess in a correspondence type game.
