I read this http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/lies-about-improving?page=1# a few years ago and it made me think differently than before.
Try playing against an engine where the engine has 1 min no increment and you have say 40min. See if you can beat it.
Norway is not a poor country, but it doesn't have a strong chess culture or history either. But Magnus Carlsen was able to play chess against strong players whenever he wanted to--on the internet.
Wow, that implication is completely wrong. Carlsen had weekly face to face coaching with titled players from a young age, and played hundreds of OTB tournament games before he was even a teenager. He even took a year off of school (around the age of 13) and his Dad a year off work (IIRC) and they travled around Europe playing in chess tournaments.
Chess.com saved me.
I live in a chessless wasteland. If it were not for Chess.com, I would still be sitting around pushing pieces by myself.
@ OP: I took a look at one of your games, hope you don't mind, and it looks promising. The one hurdle is to look twice before moving, as a piece may be hanging, or able to be taken for free. Once you overcome blunders, just read, analyze, and play, and you will improve. Guarenteed. Also, I learned this lesson: don't play for the the rating, just play to enjoy yourself. A rating is just a number that may look good, but in the long run, it doesn't really matter all that much.
As for the topic of coaching, there may be some online coaches that don't harge much. The cheapest I'd say any coach would be is $50-60, with the most expensive being about $100.
Best of luck!
All the best,

Thats a good idea. Sometimes when I play against engines I dumb it down by making it play at a lower level but by letting it play at a gm level but giving yourself much more time you should be able to get a better game. I haven't tried this yet but I definately will!
