In a tournament it is very rare, but hustlers do it regularly.
How common are deliberate illegal moves in OTB rapid/blitz tournaments?

I'm joining my first OTB rapid tournament tomorrow and as I understand, moves are not written down. There should be little stopping someone from sneakily moving a piece to a more desirable spot (like a chess hustler) and then denying it when the arbiter is called. How common is this and how do you combat it?
