How did you discover chess?
This sounds like my story , well sort of it. I didn't think too much about chess 11 years ago. I played it a couple times on yahoo and wasn't serious about learning and it was just the last few years I discovered chess.com that's when I begin seriously trying to learn it.
I really wish someone introduced me chess when I was like 2 years old. I swear to god, had something happened or some event made me realize the existence of the game, I'm 100% sure that I would have become a super GM today. I have that desire to learn things I don't understand. Maybe not super GM, but maybe just a international master the very least.
For some reason, I was playing pokemon on gameboy color instead. Damn it. I hate the person that got me into pokemon! Video games have no lasting value like chess do. So I would have rather invested my time into chess because i would have seen the lasting value of the game.
I'm wondering how some of the top players here discovered chess?
Bobby Fischer discovered chess when his sister bought him a chessboard from a local grocery store.
It's extraordinary when small events in your life changes everything in the future. I mean what if his sister never bought him that chessboard? Think about this, what if there are potentially more people out there who could have been super GM's but no event made it possible for them to discover chess on their own?
I first learned about chess when I saw it on Dr House MD Season 3 Episode 3 The jerk (about 11 years ago)
I didn't think much about chess after seeing that episode but then it dawn on me that I had to try it. I remember setting up a yahoo account just to play chess on yahoo chess and I got pummeled in the face again and again. I was demotivated.
I think chess.com changed everything for me about chess. For the first time, I felt that I can improve. It's strange how there were no resource back then on yahoo.
