What are you getting at?

Taken in the context of your other statements it sounds rather like you believe your laws and justice system infallible... and every prisoner to be evil.

Personally I believe there are huge numbers of people in prison who shouldn't be there and engaging them in something like a game of chess is a kind and noble deed.

Not infallible of course, but yeah I think it's pretty good. You need a lot of evidence for a person to be put in prison, the decision is made very carefully, often even when things seem obvious.

I think few people are there that shouldn't be, and I don't think they have been doing it for the greater good. If they have that's stupid.

People are not picked to serve as jurors because they seem intelligent... they are usually picked because they either seem stupid and maleable or stupid and opinionated... and they are the ones who get to play judge and say guilty or not guilty. So while I think that most people in prison are there for a legitimate reason, I don't have as much blind faith on the system as you do.

That's why decisions are made unanimously. It only takes one sane person to convince everyone else. Just one. And who's gonna last longer? The guy who's making sense or one of the stubborn idiots who don't want to be wrong? They should give in eventually, they don't want to stay for too long if they know they're wrong, though some people may be too stupid to know when they're wrong, that can be a problem. This is no light decision. It takes a long time.

So yeah I have faith in the system, not blind faith.

How clever. Now you can call the one or two friends you have and show them the depth of your wit.

theoreticalboy

Not directed at you, compadre.

EDIT: by the way, when you're trying to insult someone on the internet, you reeeeeeaaaaalllllyyyyyy should check for errors.

I served on a jury. I was foreman of the jury in a personal injury case. I don't appreciate being called stupid by some dim witted sad sack who thinks its a good idea to seek out con men and violent thugs to play with. Yeah, I said it.

Reading comprehension is not your strength, is it? Also, since not all people in prison are "con men and violent thugs", why do you make the assumption that I want to play chess with those people in particular? No wonder you got picked to be on a jury.

The guy who is making more sense might be right or he might be a sophist. And the stubborn idiot might be wrong or maybe he is not a good debater. There isn't a clear cut answer. For the most part, though, the system works, but you will always find exceptions.

We're not going to run out of people who don't read, comprehend, or reason, yet post fluidly.

electricpawn

Visit a prison and tell me that most of the inmates aren't "con men and thugs." What makes you think you can decide who you're play with anyway? Extensive interviews? Are you looking for a date?
