How do I defend the arguement that chess is a sport?

Chess is considered a sport because it's a competitive game where players face off against each other, just like in football or basketball. You need a lot of skill and strategy to play chess well. It's all about planning your moves and trying to outsmart your opponent.

There are big tournaments and championships for chess, like the World Chess Championship. It's even recognized by the International Olympic Committee, which is a big deal.

Top chess players train really hard and need to have a lot of mental endurance because matches can last for hours. It's like running a marathon, but for your brain.

In chess, it's important to play fair and follow the rules, just like in any other sport. Sportsmanship is a big part of it.

So, even though you don't get sweaty playing chess, it still has a lot of the same qualities as other sports. It's all about competition, skill, and dedication. Plus, it's a great workout for your brain! 🧠🏆

This is why I said people shouldn't use AI to write forum posts.

@850 I know that it is the motto of modern Olympics, buddy. I just wanted to summarize the definition. I understand you and many other dedicated chess players. It is hard to think neurally, after being involved in such a great game for years. I know that a cheetah is faster, a bear is stronger and a bird is higher than a human. Sport is all about a challenge against physic rules, and a challenge against other humans in specific fields, respectively. Human beings are smarter than animals, but it is something about civilization, not sports. I’m sorry but chess is not a sport, it is a game. Including vast amount of knowledge, we can also classify it as a science, as well. But again, it has nothing to do with physical activity.

Toreador is a game of fun? (havinmg fun and killing Bulls)

Sportive phishing release the catch after sport is done.. toreador release corps...

Boxing is a sport? KO the oponent? where is humanity in it?

I understand I am smartest, quicker, stronger..but permanent affection of opponent and even killing it cannot be sport... my point

I believe the distinction is mostly decided by how interested people are in watching you and more importantly paying to watch you. Games become 'sports' when the activity attracts paying customers and promotors, tournaments and leagues. When no audience exists, it's a game.

Snooker gets the same debate despite being far from inactive and you can burn a lot of calories walking around a table for a few hours. I gave up on the debate because I doubt the WPBSA even has it on the agenda.

There is a claim, I think backed up with a study/experiment/evidence, that thousands of calories are used in a classical chess game. How many, I don't remember. I'm sure that can be looked up online but I don't want to.

This was a claim but the study that backed it up was very flawed and based the amount of calories burnt on blood pressure and heart rate
