Chess is a very brutal sport/ game. I think it's way more brutal than soccer or even American football.

Because if you lose at football it just means that the opponent played better,

if you lose at chess, it means you're stupid and your opponent is smart.

It's much harder to take than a leg injury.

And in chess you can lose any time during the game.

In contrast, though, if you get a leg injury you may never be able to play football again. If you lose a chess game, though, there's nothing preventing you from playing again.

Actually, that's not quite true. But in football, you can also possibly get injured at any time during the game.

The main reasons why I feel chess players stall is because they can, they usually aren't known, and there aren't a lot of fans to get mad at them for being reckless.

Cruel, too. In physical sports, you might get hurt briefly, but then the pain subsides. In chess they do things like use a bishop to pin your rook against your king, and instead of just capturing that rook right away and getting it over with, they make you waste a move moving your king out of the pin, then capturing the rook anyway. Or worse, they put you in Zugzwang so that you must do the injury to yourself. They even insult you by getting an army of knights or queens via promotion of several pawns and play with you, instead of just getting one queen and quickly putting you out of your misery. They just won't stop, and this goes on year after year. Mommy, I don't think I like this game.

OR it doesn't subside and you get left with a physical injury for the rest of your life. Or you get permanently disabled. That doesn't happen in chess.

Also, if you no longer have an interest in playing the game (if your opponent is slowly promoting queens to troll you or something like that) you can hit the resign button.

You need to learn how to imbalance positions.

I found it best to find something you are good at, whether an opening, a strategy, etc. and keep perfecting it until you are so good at it, every possibile outcome. Other than that, just realize its just something to help your brain think more openly

Lower your expectations. The games that get replayed over and over as examples are few and far between. For every amazing game you think would be so fun to play, there are thousands of boring ones.

I think the OP is in a kind of a rut. I also experienced it myself when I am just playing only one kind of opening. At some point I tried to learn chess lessons and it literally opens my mind how beautiful the game is and now I understand the roles of each pieces inside the board. This gives me an awe on how intricate the ideas are in chess and I am still discovering things as I play more games.
