How do I play against the Englund Gambit?

I feel like I have a decent position in the opening but make some horrible mistake 10 moves later.

Englund gambit is very bad if the opponent know what they're doing.

Loosing to the Englund got me into chess study. For the first time I studied lines. I had exactly the same as you describe: a winning position but loosing anyway (and getting frustrated about it because I knew I should have won). Now I do win the games.

To my surprise I enjoyed the study as much as playing games or maybe even more.

Maybe you can post one or two of your lost games?

Play into the gimmick and white is better, if not crushing.

You may have to remember about 6-10 moves and plenty of YouTube videos to choose from.

Playing e.4 makes the Englund Gambit impossible.

If you’re insistent on d.4 this should help.

Play well and you’ll win no problem.

1.d4 e5 2.dxe5 and then 3.e4 no matter what black plays is a good way to avoid any tricks and still have an advantage.

As an Englund player as black, I can say this is by far the line I hate to see the most.

First off, stop laughing! Next, just play good commonsense moves. Lastly, let your opponent cry on your shoulder and offer to teach them how to play decent openings. That's pretty much it!

Why is the word England misspelled

The opening is called the Englund, not the England.

Just don't fall for the trap and you'll end up with a better position and will probably be able to keep the pawn if possible!

actually its better to give up pawn for more development

You could just play 2. e4 and transpose into a Danish Gambit or Scotch or some other open game.

Danish Gambit is garbage.

...or the Scotch or the Goring Gambit or the Center Game...
