Teamwillow is just pulling our leg with his advice about moving the Rook in castling. Fact of the matter is that Teamwillow himself castles by moving the King and not the Rook.

Good job!

You're wrong actually. I move my rook first to castle.

"under current US Chess Federation rules, a player who intends to castle and touches the rook first would suffer no penalty, and would be permitted to perform castling, provided castling is legal in the position. Still, the correct way to castle is to first move the king."

However, I think this thread was about castling ON chess.com, where you must move the king first to obtain the required result.

If you will notice carefully, Yeres30 was talking about Chess.Com.

Any talk about moving the Rook first in castling in Chess.Com is irrelevant and meaningless because in Chess.Com castling can be done only if and only if the King is moved first.

Which is exactly what I said.

This is Ridiculous! Yes I have the issue as well and can't castle and what's up with the instructions? Now why would someone join a chess website without knowning the rules? People feel they need to point out how to make the move. My god, why would they even know to ask the question if they didn't know how? I don't know what's worse, the guy assuming the person doesn't know how to castle or the programmer who wont fix the problem to prevent this drama.

Really! Why not fix the problem for good chess.com????????????????? It still exist!!!!!!!!!!

If there's not a clear technical answer on how to fix, please do not respond. The jumping back with the browser is for the birds.

It's like the movie, I'm on my way yet have to stop to go back and get a shitz load of dimes to move forward because of a dumb obstacle (poor programming).

I'm truely a pawn in this game of life. At least in this chess program.

Just because someone knows the rules doesn't mean they don't know the CORRECT rules.  There is a lot of confusion about rules such as castling and en passant, and that's not even getting into the specifics about draw claims and clock penalties for illegal moves.

Simply put, a lot of people aren't taught that castling is a king move.  And if you've only played casual games OTB, then it is quite possible that that aspect of the move is overlooked.  I know I'm not going to call one of my friends on it if we're playing a friendly game.  A tournament game is a different matter.

Some people might also not be taught the specifics about what squares can or cannot be under attack when one wants to castle.

And if you think someone isn't going to be confused about castling, I'd point out that a famous russian grandmaster once asked the arbiter of a tournament he was in whether castling was legal when his rook was attacked.

In the hundreds of games I've played on this site, castling has always worked correctly.  If you think you have a situation where you should be able to castle and you can't, even by moving the king first, then post it.  The most likely scenario is that you're overlooking an attacked square and that is what is preventing castling.

Well I'm here to own up to my alias name and admitting that I'm the real pawn in this game of life. I must of been drinking all those years with Gene Wilder and Gabby Johnson at the Johnson pub. I did go back through all the moves and yes I had a K move. Looks like the programmer is riding off to the sunset as I plant my face in Hedley Lamarr's hands. Actually, I need someone to send me a package. Sorry Chess club. Call me what you want; I deserve it.
