Diamond members have a 2x rating point multiplier

Is that really true or is that just a myth?

It's not true. Not sure you can call it a myth though

Sorry I didn't know the word for it, I meant to say something like a rumor

Rumour? myth? paranoid conspiracy theory? steaming pile of bs... Same-same. As long as it's not so.

I get 8 points per win in rapid when my opponent has the same rating as me. My friends seem to get a lot more points in a win than I do, as shown in the image. Why does this happen and is there a way I can change this?

@Martin_Sthal, in a team match you don't have choice to choose opponent. So I was paired with this very low rated player. It should be a principle that a win should earn at least one point and a loss should deduct at least one point. There is some respect in winning.

I struggle to understand this point, really. There is some respect in winning, and voila, you are rewarded with a win. What would one do with that point? You can exchange them for T-shirts?

I wonder how people were able to play chess before ratings existed

Not to mention that works both ways. Some day you can be paired with an absolute monster and after being stomped you won't lose any points.

You can not change anything. Everyone, including you and your friends, are playing under the exact same rating adjustment system. The variances are caused by the actual rating difference of the two players when they "start the game", not what it shows after the game has ended. Then you must the difference of yours, and your opponents actual rating when your game was started. Then you compare that with your friends, along with the points won/lost. Along with that, the RD factor can play a substantial role in the outcome of a rating. The purpose of the RD factor is to find the truest rating of a player as quickly as possible, so a good match can be found.

in order to get more, beat higher ranked players.

Guys hear me out tho, so i have 2 accounts with one registered as new to chess and the other a beginner with a 240 rating. HOW come every time I play with this 240 elo account, it always wins with like +8 points or +10 points only compared to my other account getting +33 everytime I win a rated game?

Cocos4e_3

what? i only gain like 9 points when i win

marshblr

played a game with an equal opponent 998 vs 996

it was +8 for winner and -8 for loser

he won and received 20 pionts instead of +8

Provisional rating (or long period of inactivity). Look up reliability deviation in Glicko (improved Elo) ratings. Inactivity leads to a higher RD factor and hence more volatile ratings.

I used to be getting 8 points for winning against a person with a rating which is close to mine in my alt account. But I didn’t play in it for 2 to 3 months and now it gives me 9 points for an equally rated opponent.
