HOW DO YOU REALLY KNOW WHEN SOMEONE IS A CHEATER?

I've been victimized twice by a 600 player, so he's got to be a cheater.

I suppose if a player has a turn-based rating of 2050 and a Blitz rating of 1250 that might suggest cheating.  But what cheaters do not understand is, they are cheating themselves because they do not know their true strength.  The other point is, unless you are a live tournament rated master, there are always going to be better players and the wise decision is just to enjoy playing the game at whatever level you are.  It is the inner game that matters and when you learn something by yourself, there is a satisfaction not fournd from a computer.

you can cheat at blitz also. I dont know how, but ive seen it

when theres a will people find a way..

...for what it is worth, I have been married married more than a few times, and I can tell you, if you think they are cheating, they are.  From now on, I am going to follow Ron Stewart's suggestion and not marry again.  I am just going to find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

There is a book in my library, "How to Cheat At Chess,"  by William Hartston, published in 1994 by Cadogan Books.  It is a humorous tome on sneaky things you can do to achieve and unfair gain over the board.  You might enjoy my comments in the forum "How Much Psychology Is Involved in Chess?"

I will say this:  of the superstars, GMs, IMs, and Senior Masters I have been fortunate enought to meet over the years, each was very polite, professional, and some were almost charming (like Sharizi, unlike Walter Browne).  However, the average club player at his worst is an overweight excentric who still lives in the basement or garage of his parent's house and who's diet consists of chips and a few hits on the bong.  It is fairly easy to cheat in a live over the board game with this kind of neurotic.  Little things, like asking him at a crucial complicated position on the board if that stunningly attractive lady at the other side of the room is his girlfriend or saying, "Ja'doube" every time it is your move and carefully adjusting all of your pieces (and his) to the exact center of the square.  Or, going over to a friend far enough so that nothing can be heard but within sight of your opponent and pointing and both of you laughing uncontrollably.

Cheating online requires more creativity.  I have never done any of these tactics, of course, but the chat button could be a lethal weapon.  For example, when your opponent blunders away a piece or his queen, type, "DEAD" and send it.  This could be unnerving for the losing player.  Or, more mild, just make the suggestion that chess may not be the right game for him and ask if he has tried dominos.  Also, sometimes you can work on the country of origin of the player.  Without naming specific countries, as fits, you can type:  "Hey, how are your plans coming along for blowing up the world," or "Gee, it is too bad about your (starving, ignorant, diseased) population.  Perhaps you could use some leadership."  Basically, say anything that will stir the emotions of your opponent and cloud their ability to think logically.

The possibilities are as endless as your imagination, Sleeping Beauty.  It makes me wonder what I would say to you.  : ^ )
