How do you tell who is playing white and who is playing black?

Yeah, when I'm viewing some games, I have to get 1/2 way through before I realize who is playing what. 
yes, the first name should be white
In the very begining, black is always playing black. He is already a move behind. But sooner or later white makes a mistake, loses a valuable square, or in some cases, castles (unless you end up protecting a piece, the pawn in front hinders the rooks use). Now they are even. White makes another blunder and Black is now playing White!

This may be a stupid question, but I'm never one afraid of making a fool of myself, so here goes.
When I view some of the posted games for analysis, I find it hard to figure out who is black and who is white. Is there a standard? For example, if it says Fischer vs. Spassky, is the first name playing white?
