how does chess.com detect cheaters?

I keep on receiving a message saying I played against a cheater and that I have been given back my points sooo how do they detect it?

If a player has a tendency to magically turn into Stockfish (because they're using Stockfish) when they're in a losing position, it's a dead giveaway. Basically, if your opponent takes 5 minutes to make a move from a clearly worse position and then becomes a 3000+ Elo god mode machine, you're playing a cheater. Rarely, a player who consistently plays extremely well (and then randomly sucks) may also get flagged.
