Carlin has a natural ability to prove a point.

Perhaps our ancestors already understood the harmful effects of tapping energy resources which release masses of harmful by products like carbon dioxide and nuclear waste?

Our planet is in no danger, only the top 1/1000 inch.  The only thing endangering that is copulation, something our species seems unable to control.

Rob Brezsny, of the 80's Santa Cruz, California band World Entertainment War sang in one song: "The problem isn't overpopulation - it's overpopulation by the wrong people".  He's brilliant  (I used to be friends with, and in a study group, with his ex-girlfriend [predating their involvement] and was always amazed at how Rob could make a living with his online writing and popular observational skills).  I thought WEW's song  "Apathy and Ignorance" was clever, with the verse "What's the difference between apathy and ignorance?  I don't know and I don't care!".   It's among their free MP3s herebut I digress.

Apparently Rob Brezsny was right, I read last week a new report that states the Western countries lost 14 points of IQ since 1950.

Poor old Malthus.  Nobody listened.

I see Carlin has been stealing my material again.

You could let natural forces and energies do the work.

MMmmm . . . Chocolate. I'm a natural at eating chocolate.

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

Give me the chocolate and nobody gets hurt.

Too much atmospheric pressure, dude.

Dischyzer: Carlin was a prophet.  His 7:58 minute "Owners of this Country" bit on youtube (and in fact the whole hour long "Live is Worth Losing" HBO special he did), was nothing short of brilliant.  When I saw it originally many years ago, though I found it entertaining, funny, and somewhat relevant, I didn't realize just how relevant it was and thought he was just becoming a cynical old man, and kind of crude.  But as I've seen events in society and the world, and politics unfolding and contemplated it more, I realize Carlin was ahead of his time, and nailed probably the most salient issues of our times.

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

Carlin has been the cutting edge his entire career.  He reminds me of Issaac Asimov on steroids.

Carlin will be missed.  Did Asminov make any social commentary or discuss oligarchies?  You know I haven't read much/any Asminov.  If someone were to read one of his books, what would you suggest?

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

He wrote some good books, I've probably read a hundred of them, but that isn't what impresses me about Asimov.  He is the only man I know of that had absolute 100% recall of everything he had ever seen, heard, or done.

Is that a gift or a curse? (not your impression of him, but his memory)

Dark_N_Stormy_Knight

According to him it was a curse.  he said you couldn't do anything even remotely bad.  he had hit his younger brother when they were children and he was still beating himself up for it 50 years later.  Having just looked him up on Wikipedia I think I've been had.  He had difficulties in school that editic memory wouldn't allow.  There is no mention of it in Wikipedia.  I can't even remember how long I've been dragging this around either.  But it's gone now.
