How far can you get without learning book openings?

Follow the advice of those posting and you should be fine. But remember in the opening as your are trying to develope "all" of your pieces NEVER take your eyes off the center! From the first move you have a plan WIN (or at least grab your share) of the center . AS a begginer as those posting have told you LEARN and USE opening principles to direct your play. GOOD LUCK have fun this is a great game !! Laughing

Play more games ! Book reading is required but nothing is equivalent to playing more games as it will enhance you automatically even without your knowledge !
