How good is the Backyard Professor?

Who are the haters in here ?  

I like the backyard professor, he seems like a nice guy. No need to criticize him.

The point isn't about the validity of the BYP's methods. It's about just letting people be who they are without dragging them through the mud. We are all in the same boat. Everyone has their own way of living life. Live and let live!

He is a nice guy. That doesn't mean that his chess videos have any value. Quite the opposite. Most players who spend any time watching them wil need to unlearn many things in order to reach their potential.

It sure seems the Golden Age of sheeple stupidity.

How dare anyone point out incompetence ?

I guess I should consider a career as a politician, irregadless of the fact I have no qualification whatsoever to make decisions even at a small community level.

But so long as I "seem like a nice guy" or portray myself as being "enthusiastic about it" noone should be allowed to criticize me, right ?

That should allow me to live comfortably on the taxes the sheeple pay

How old is Jacob ?

Looks like he's 12 this year kco . 

Do you see where on the uscf site where it says  latest fide rating ?  you can click there and on the fide page it gives his birth year , 2003 . 

That would have been interesting if Jacob has made it the master level and make video out of it.

BYP  is not a serious chess player .  Jacob  seems to be . 

I heard he was a patzer that read from chess books. I dunno much about him from experience though. I never watched any of his videos.

I have most of Jeremy Silman's books. A lot of what BYP says about them is inaccurate. His reading comprehension is on par with his tactical skill.

I admire his enthusiasm and love for the game. Watching him it becomes obvious that he is a beginner level player so I don't assume to be getting expert instruction. You can still learn insights from his programs, because every one has the ability to teach. There is a lot to be learned from beginner, intermediate, expert, and master level games. The true beauty is the game of chess!

I am personally familiar with him, and he is a "jack of all trades", moving from one project of interest to another.

Guys, unless someone else made an account in his name .. he seems to be pretty good at chess. .. search TheBackyardProfessor and you'll find a guy with near 2000 ratings

Never mind... I think I found his real account... he is still way better than me and his videos are quite helpful.

I like the guy, although I've not met him personally. But, he is neither a strong chess player nor a particularly effective teacher. He is good at self-promotion, and his videos have a quasi-professional quality. His enthusiasm is infectious.
