how hard is to be a NM or FM?

Only the top 0.25% (more or less) of all chess players are IMs, and there are about 5700 FMs (according to wikipedia). It is quite hard, but possible if you put your mind to it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIDE_titles

my (tiny) understanding of such things is that the difference between a 2200 and a 2400 is huge; a huge amount of knowledge. In any case, it makes sense to aim for 2200 before you aim for 2400 if you're aiming for such things at all I guess I think that focusing on a rating should be less important than focusing on how your chess is going, and how your relationship with your chess is going. So, best of luck to you. If you're going to aim for a National Master title in Argentina, I'd join a local chess club and join the National orgnaization, and start playing tournaments, and see how you like it, and how you do. Then you'll have a better chance at making such predictions.
About how to go about improving..its always the same method. Look at your games, see what you need to learn, and learn it. Rinse and repeat. Look at your games, see what you need to learn, and learn it. Rinse, and repeat.
