Gambits are fine and you won't need to study anything like 1,000 hours per year. They are a lot of fun, you will gain many smashing early victories, and they will teach you the value of development and time.

thank you very much American cave man.  Having fun now with gambits...much more than Ruy Lopex, Silly Siciliean, 4 Nights, Fried French, Killer Caro Cann and Watch Grass Grow PetroffRussian.   Do You know one hot black gambit agin d4?

2 guys i know that only study tactics, and play stuff like the halloween gambit are both USCF 2000.  Anyone stronger than Expert and they get destroyed.

Thank Diakonia. Your word give me hope.

Yes, I suc at tactics and practice them ever day.  i agree, most game are won or lost in middle game.  I change my mind, maybe 1800 by 3 year.   'The successful warrior is average man with laser focus.'

If playing that way is all youre looking for, you can do a lot worse than Expert.  Good Luck!

Against 1. d4 Black has aggressive gambits on moves 1., 2., 3., 4., 5., etc.

Pick your battles.

You can become a titled player for sure. Many titled players play unorthodox openings. I know IM Basman plays openings like the Grob, and GM Jobava also plays odd openings. Also, Kasparov did beat Anand with the Evans Gambit, so anything is possible. But playing Gambits exclusively is not good if you want to improve.

What about the middle gambit
Avatar of TheGambitKid

i tried Budapest a few times, they don't play like i want them and like book says.  ;-)

My worthy opponent bring out his 20 min clock and we play this below.  My clock running faster than his twice much i think.  He push his pawn up and i freak out, then i am lost at Budapest.

Mr Mexico, haha, change Halloween to Grob and Jabaya.  Halloween make good point = expert can play any crap opening and still win with middle game.

You cant just memorize moves.

I'm sure that a really strong player can get away with playing nothing but gambits and still be rated 2500 (here, or in USCF) - someone from the world top ten, for example.

I don't know - for all I know he might also push it to 2600, or close to that.

I now read the OP - I never realized that the Trompowski is a gambit. What is sacrificed in that opening? Is parting with the bishop pair on move three nowadays considered a gambit?
