how humans and computers differ!

Isn't it weird how wildly we humans differ from computers? Humans, no matter how hard we try, are pragmatic and lazy, and not very good at tactics. I was struck by how much this game exemplifies the difference:

At move 17 I completely missed the mate-in-1 even though it wasn't a tricky one to spot, simply because it was even more obvious to me that I could force my opponent to exchange queens and swap off one of his two remaining lesser pieces, leaving him with one piece against my four, and three pawns to eight, which is an obviously winnable situation. But I could also see he had three pieces lined up against my poor little knight right in front of the king, so given my inability to handle nasty tactical situations, this constituted a big opportunity for things to go horribly wrong. So as a human, I grabbed at the obvious simplification into a winning position, without actually considering the possibility I could win it outright, immediately, with one simple pawn push... something even the least sophisticated of 1980's chess computers would have seen immediately on its lowest skill setting.
