How is is that Emory Tate never became GM

For every game he won against a GM he lost 4.
So if we were to just cherry pick only certain results then I'm GM level. I've got 2 wins and a draw vs legit masters in otb classical tournament play but..... I've also got 6 losses. You have to look at ALL results, not just wins.

The idea that talent is just how much work you put in completely ignores the fact that there is a small minority of gifted individuals that are able to acquire skills in a fraction of the time others put in.
There are musicians who had developed a level of skill by the age of 3 that most people can't achieve after years or even decades of practice (and this includes classically trained musicians).
The notion that talent is just a function of the time applied to learning seems to assume that everyone learns at the same rate and has the same cognitive processing capacity (which we know is false). We know for certain that there are huge disparities in cognitive processing ability.

Oh. My. God.... you're saying that everyone isn't equal?? Oh the woke police might jump all over that and try to cancel you. They might consider that hate speech. We're supposed to pretend everyone is the same and has the same inherent abilities. Good luck.

it seems like he never crossed the 2500 barrier or became GM
even though its reported that he beat over 80 GM's with his tactical abilities
Emory tate's peak elo was 2508, he had the choice to become a GM but he refused to, and he beated a lots of GM, like a lot

No, Tate was never given the option of being a GM. I talked to him about this. His norms expired when his rating was over 2500.
As has been mentioned before, Tate was capable of beating some of the best in the world, but also he was capable of losing to sub1500 rated players too. And yes, this was before engines were good enough to cheat.

Actually, this is not how liberals or "woke" people think. Where I've worked directly with people across the political spectrum (sometimes we've hosted debates), no, this is definitely not what woke is about or how people who aren't conservative think.
We need to stop being so easy to manipulate and presume people from different political spectrums than us are profoundly dumb and woefully out of touch with reality (just because they hold a different belief).
We're all profoundly dumb.
At most, we are just about intelligent enough to fathom just how stupid our brains are. But the vast majority of us have absolutely no awareness of it.

I think he didn't have skill even though he beat GM's
Just about every strong player he faced knew he had the talent to be a GM. Sadly, his internal demons kept him from being consistent enough to become a GM. But he created many works of chess art.

That's 2508 USCF, not FIDE. You need 2500 FIDE to be a GM -- Tate's highest FIDE rating was 2413, well below GM level.

I was playing blitz games against Emory Tate one evening and suddenly he told me that positional chess is a weakness of his. We played a bunch of games, but we weren't keeping count so I don't know how many. I think I won a couple, drew a few, and he won a lot. He didn't seem to be fully trying against me I thought. He did say my style caused him some trouble.
I was surprised when he asked me to play him blitz. I knew he was out of my league. I think he was just looking to kill some time.

From what I've seen, Emory Tate was strong enough to be a dangerous IM ... but not consistent enough to be a Grandmaster.
He was like Josh Waitzkin, in that regard. Showed flashes of GM potential - but potential that went unfulfilled.
It goes to show how difficult it can be to reach the GM level - even potent players like Tate and Waitzkin were still not strong enough.
These days, with countless live events and streaming, we're so used to seeing top players compete that we've become desensitized to just how rare a Grandmaster actually is ...
Andrew Tate is Emory Tates son. I was amazed when I found that out. I met Emory before, in Philadelphia, 1993 I think. I think Andrew was about 7 or so then.
