Draw by repetition

Avatar of Alramech

The game was drawn by threefold repetition (the same board position was reached three times).  This position occurred after the following moves:

  • 38... Kg7
  • 40... Kg7
  • 42... Re7

A common fallacy is thinking it is a repetition of moves.  It is not.  It is a repetition of the position (same type of pieces on all the same squares, same person on move, same moves available).

Finally someone explains this in a way I understand!
