My assumption on this matter is that it is largely dependent on the individual, as well as just how “muscular” you were prior to ceasing your exercises .

This is a subject I've never seen addressed before in the forums. How long does Chess Muscle turn to Chess Fat? For example, you work out every single day, you gain muscle. Stop and you lose it. I played in a chess club in college for awhile, got okay for what I was aiming at. Stopped playing chess when I graduated, then spent a decade or so away from the game. Started playing again and was awful. Losing almost every single game. Then, it seemed like the memory all rushed back and I was playing good again. Been playing online for the last 10 years or so. Dropped off during Covid era for 8 months or so, when I came back, horrible play on my part. I've noticed it starting to return to old levels, but I'm curious. Has anybody ever tracked how many games you have to practice each day in order to keep your rating where it is? Or how long it takes when you quit chess to forget all your openings, tactics, etc., and have to rediscover them again after a prolonged period of being away from the game?
