How long does it take for one to become a master? (estimate)

i was wondering how long on average it would take for a chess player to become a master (2200) 

lets say this person plays  almost everyday,no coach but they use the resources on the internet to study. they do all the recommended method of improving,tactics,going over their games,studying masters games etc. what are your guys though on the subject, good insight, experiences and stories are appreciated, thanks.

Maybe 5 years but don't bank on it.

I knew this guy who thought he was a master because he was pretty good at blitz. So annoying. He finally played in a couple of tournaments and lost games to 1300s.

I'm no expert at chess.. i'm pretty darn awful. That's a fact. However i have been pretty dam good at other pursuits, so i know what it takes to master something. You can expect to put in around 10,000 hours of ridiculously hard work. Weather it takes 5 years or 30 years, that's up to you!
