How long does it take you to reach 2000?

I think it only takes 1 game? Ive seen 3000 reached very fast. One guy played the same guy and the game was over in 1 move. Like 4 or 5 moves in total.

Chess.com didn't exist when I was as good as 2000 rapid, so it's hard to say.

2000 in general took 10+ years, but also I didn't go to my first tournament until I was already 21 years old, and long ago you couldn't get free coaching online in the form of GM lectures and streams, so it was harder back then. Also I obviously wasn't studying and playing for 10 years straight

Anyway, 2000 chess.com rapid in your first year is really good... usually people aren't giving their exact start date but I see you've gained about 400 points of rapid in about 7 months, and that's really good, obviously.

Thank you

just me but i feel like 2000 ( although impressive in 1 year ) isnt really barred by time spent. all you have to do is play a few good openings and not blunder

Reaskali

2000 isn't difficult. Just put your mind to it.

RopemakerStreet

I never understand why people talk about 'length of time' with chess progress rather than the more relevant 'how many games did it take you to reach x amount of games'. point.

Two people could join 1 year ago today, 1 year later, one of them may have played 5000 games, the other 500, and both have reach 2000, for arguments sake, which one is more impressive? clearly it's the guy who only played 500 games, time is meaningless without context.

darkunorthodox88

2000 what? USCF? FIDE, Chess.com rapid?

expert should take prob 5 years. Talented youth players get to 1800 in about 3 years.

RopemakerStreet

Opening poster is talking about 2000 Rapid on chess.com.

I got to 1700 in 6months as a 13 year old.

bragging gets you nowhere kiddo

Cold_W1nter

Great thing he's not bragging then, he's providing his insight which extends to the 1700 level.

ramsdellc

not what i mean. he CONSTANTLY brags about being 1700 at 13 anfd it is so annoying

Cold_W1nter

He does? I don't recall him ever making mention of it when it wasn't appropriate. You also have no reason to be annoyed, if the start of your chess.com account is accurate to the beginning of your chess journey, you still have plenty of months to achieve astronomical progress.

ramsdellc

check out a few off topic and general ones. he makes an apperance waay too often

PromisingPawns

#48 You are that average adult who believe that chess is a game of intelligence. It's ABSOLUTELY NOT. Chess is more about practice, pattern recognition, analysing hundreds of positions, doing work on all aspects of the game. Kids are better in chess because they can pick things up very fast compared to an average adult.

And apparently, you follow him around and DEFINITELY make comments that are on topic or are any better than his, funny isn't it what we humans do @ramsdellc, right?

ramsdellc

no, i go to random forums about peoples ratings and he says almost the exact same thing every time
