How long should I spend on each puzzle?

Sort:

I have recently hit 2200 in puzzles. I love to solve puzzles. I usually spend 2-4 min on each puzzle. However, when I check the avg time spent on those puzzles, they are below 1 min in most cases. I am wondering if I should spent less time on each?

Spending several minutes to really dig into the puzzle and visual the variations will develop your ability to analyze.

Pushing yourself to solve puzzles quickly is very useful if you play at short time controls.

How much time you spend with each approach depends on what you want to emphasize in your learning.

Spend as much time as you need to calculate all relevant lines, find all defending resources and the way to refute them. That's the best way to improve your tactical awareness and calculation skills, imho. Don't worry about the time you spend on solving puzzles. Once you get better at calculation, the time you have to spend on finding the solution will naturally go down.

I recently peaked at 2200 puzzle rating as well

I don't have a good score, but I am improving day by day, and learning new things.

++ What time control do you play? If you play 15|10 rapid and we assume 30 moves and then finish on increment, then you have 15*60/30 + 10 = 40 seconds per move in a game.
So in that case you should solve a puzzle in 40 seconds too.
In a game nobody tells you there is a tactic, or for whom.
