How long until you win matches?

Well, mastering chess is hard work wink.png In your rating range people tend to blunder a lot.  And some of them are impatient. So try not to blunder an look for your opponents blunder. Until he or she blunders make shure that  all your figures are covered twice.  Winning is a step by step process then.  Just be patient.  And dont focus on winning that much. For must people it is just a game.

Ha 5 years that's too long I have to be better than that! x

What does "matches" in the title mean? Games? You have already won many games. I don't understand.

Yes I mean games and I only really ever win if the person disconnects or resigns I haven't won at all yet having chess mate! xx

Some people call chess a sport because they want their students to value the idea of practice. No one works to get better at games, but sports are 90% training and 10% play.

The anti-sport crowd, however, always knows more about people’s motivation.

In any case, you seem to be off to a good start. You’ve won some games.

Some people have found this advice useful: http://chessskill.blogspot.com/2021/01/advice-for-beginners.html

Others think Capablanca does not explain things well enough. Another poster in this thread misrepresented the perspective offered, suggesting plan B, which is popular, but sets a poor foundation. Do you want short-term success or long-term?

Yes a chess game is called a game and a match can be a set of games, between clubs, counties or even individual people but a match is a set of games and some people are very finnicky about which word you use, for some reason. What you wrote was completely intelligible. Incidentally, did you see one person calling chess a sport? That's a long-running argument that's going on here. Again about words. Some people seem to think it's a sport, probably because sports attract funding and if chess can get itself classified as a sport, it gets a lot more money, none of which will benefit grass roots players in any case. It'll all go into the pockets of the wannabe rich.

Point taken ha I will call it a GAME from now on xx

Hi again. Well, owell, to win by resignation, is, we like it or not, and by far, the most common way to win a game. You'll damage your reputation in official competition, by keeping up a fight that is obviously hopeless, like you have a lone King, and the other has a Queen. (you can hope for a draw by stalemate against very weak players, tho, that is, -1000 Elo)

Numbers are a b****, I advise you not to pay too much attention to advices of players... Let's say, rated under 1500-1600, especially when their experience is exclusively online. Get a chess set, a book, study on the board, play endgames against yourself trying to play the best moves on both sides, this is the royal way. But, depending on how your memory function, you also may get (and keep) things from online videos. Don't pay for anything but the hardware. Pay stuff online, is... Erm, uneven in quality, to say the least.

Oh, and it's check mate, not chess mate, haha.

Hi thanks and oops I knew it was check mate I promise!!! xx

It's not "people" that call it a sport, but governements, ministries and other official instances, such as the Olympics Commitee.

None of which are comprised of people.

Awesome, chess.com courses may look like the same as youtube ones but, they have some details that make it better.

Make sure to nail the beginner ones before you go for the rest.

OP closed. I guess they weren’t winning enough matches.
