how will you upload your home-made images? EASILY!

go here: http://imgur.com/ and click on UPLOAD IMAGE

or, go here: http://imgur.com/apps and get something even easier.

now, all of your images will be stored, saved, managed by you very easily.

again, the "no hotlinking" thing is so over... you can tell that all of those "DONT HOTLINK ME!!" images were made 10 years ago based on their fonts, colors, and eye-gouging flashes :P

and here is one from blogspot:

ah, you misunderstand!

you will still see the images! you won't see "www.whatever.com/monkey.jpg", you'll see the actual image. we just won't be hosting it.

as for image linked by bandwidth theif.... that is so old school. nobody does that anymore. everyone understands that images float around the interwebs.

here is an example of an image hosted somewhere else, and when you choose "external URL" (this image is on imgur):

Except many blogs, like those that are in blogspot and many other sites.

I know that you probably allow that and think that there rest of the websites are like that, but almost every time that I have tried to do it, I have received the "hot linking not allowed" or an ugly picture that shouldn´t be there.

Probably is old school, and probably you haven´t see it lately.

But I have found it almost every time that I have tried to link images directly.

Now, about the images that are already stored, are they going to dissapear?

I didn´t say that all of them, but I have received that message many times this year.

If you don´t want to believe it, that´s ok.

Believe that if you want.

But that´s has not been my experience.

Okay, that's much clearer erik.

Just a storm in a teacup.

i hope so. it's not changing how images work, it's just that we won't put them on our servers. you can still have PLENTY of helpful images in the forums :P

(this image is NOT hosted on Chess.com!)

Erik....If it creates more work for me to get my pics onto a thread I will not bother doing it. Sorry, sweetheart, but I spend a lot of time doing those images as it is. Frown

erik: Are you going to delete the images that are already stored in chess.com?

kboyer309

Pat would like to know...

what about all of the photos that are ALREADY posted

                        PRIOR

to whenever the change is made??

       DO THEY JUST ALL DISAPPEAR???

                        OR

would we have to go back and manually link to

               every one of them?

        (PandyPat...you beat me to it!)

understood. my recommendation is you spend 5 minutes learning imgur, and then you will save yourself a lot of time over time.

old images... i'm not sure yet.

A beatiful picture of some people clapping:

Sure... it´s old school... but a lot of websites are old school.

(And no, I´m not linking to an image showing a black square with red letters, I´m linking to a picture of people clapping)

In any case, at least you clarified that you are going to erase the abbility to upload images and now I know that there´s a probability that all the images already stored are also going to go.

kboyer309

It sounds like that what you would see in V3

could depend on whether it's

OLD pics already posted

               or

          NEW pics...after V3 kicks in.

So...AFTER the change to V3 is finally made...

would OLD pics already posted look something like this???

ooooh that dog is so cute!!!

((But why did I have to click on the link to see it?))

iMacChess

@erik As the old saying goes; "if it ain't broke don't fix it" need I say more! There are a lot of things in v2 that we all like and want to see you left in v3 and pictures is just one of them. Please listen to what the people are saying. Most of us like chess.com not only is it Chess site but also as a social site, and it sounds like a lot of the things that we like doing will not be in v3.

netzach

What about existing threads? eg:

Greatest Chess Photos

chess in art

The Chess Art Thread

Will these be safely transferred intact to V3?

Well now... it's late here, I've had a drink or two and I'm no spring chicken... I can't for the life of me discover how to post the image that I uploaded to imgur. Do I need an account to share images?

Ah! the same old.

I thought I just had to paste some code into the text field.

That's how it works on some other sites.

Let's test Panda's contention that this image won't last very long.
