How many mate threats?

Why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing?
Same goes for peeling a banana and unpeeling a banana.

And what's up with gorillas being in the mist? What if they're not in the mist? What if they're in a heavy fog? What the hell is a mist? Is it a light fog? If I spray perfume, and a gorilla happens to be there, is he in a mist? Why is war in a fog, but gorillas are in a mist?
Drink two coming up

I thought gorillas lived in jungles? They seem rather too massive to live in even the heaviest of mists and/or fogs.

Definitely a question worth considering! Do gorillas live in jungles??? King Kong lived on an island, yes, but the island was covered by fog. So, when schools are delayed because of fog, are they really delayed because of gorillas?

maybe start in the center where the king has maximum squares
black to move - stalemate in 1

My Guess is that for checkmate you have usually have to cover 7 squares before the killing blow.

Also...if that one guy ran himself over toward the start of the "Upper Class Twit of the Year" sketch, how come he didn't win?

You're thinking of Guerrillas.

Well, after having spammed this goofy thing I got to thinking about it...and it actually turned out to be fairly fun.
First off, 9 isn't even close. If you incorporate discovereds, your total will go way up. I think (if I'm counting right) there are 34 in the following position:
If you really want to find out though, somebody somewhere must've tackled this problem before (and probably around 150 years ago, if my guess is right). Check out Sam Loyd...if ever there was a genuine genius at this kind of stuff, it was that guy.
Hello all,
I was wondering what the maximum number of mate threats were possible on any given move?
For example:
I created this diagram in two minutes and discovered 9 different ways to checkmate in one. I would like to point out that this setup is actually possible in a real game with white's last move being Ka1. Short of adding queen after queen to a diagram, can anyone expand on mine to create a situation where someone can checkmate more than 9 different ways? Thank you for reading and I look forward to your feedback. P.S. please let me know if I missed any checkmates in my own diagram.
